What would Aretha Franklin do at this very moment?
So today was made of fail. Not necessarily bad. Just... so, so, very faily.

SO. After the entry this morning, I rushed upstairs and put on what I called my "I do not want to feel like trailer trash in Leeds" outfit, consisting of my denim mini-skirt and my blue and white striped T-shirt that I bought with Hell. I looked good, ok? I had to do maybe an hour at the church, and then have fun in Leeds spending my hard earned money. SIMPLES.

No. I got to the church, and it turns out that I was supposed to be there all afternoon. Until 6pm World 1 Beth 0. So that was faily. My fault, because I had written down that it was all day, I just hadn't checked what I'd written down. But it was really quiet and we hardly had to do anything, so I spent ages talking to Mignon (still my favourite person in the world right now OMG) and she mentioned that if it was still really quiet a bit later on, that I could go. World 1 Beth 1

The train times on a Sunday are really irregular. And I have no idea when they are. So I text Pete because I knew that he was in and therefore had internet access, and asked him to tell me what time the trains are from Bingley to Leeds on a Sunday. 13:34, 13:56 and basically every half an hour after that. You would therefore think that it would make sense, at 2.15pm, to aim to get the 3.54. That is about the right walking time. Except not so much, because it turns out that there's only ONE train to Leeds every hour on a Sunday, and it's at 34 minutes past the hour. So I had to wait FORTY-FIVE FUCKING MINUTES at Bingley station, where it was raining and the waiting room was locked. And I didn't get my discount. SO FAIL. World 2 Beth 1

Eventually I got to Leeds with half an hour of shopping time left. So I pretty much ran to Paperchase and bought a birthday card, then went to HMV and Zavvi Head (worst name for a store EVER) because I want to get Peter a boxset for his birthday. HMV is still totally expensive for the first series of a show that aired oh, eight years ago? But then Zavvi Head has Six Feet Under for £14.97 so HI. That was amazing. Until I realised that they didn't have season one, which would be helpful when wanting to watch something from the beginning. World 3 Beth 1 They did, however, have The Sopranos, so I got the first part of season six, although they don't have the Final Episodes. BUT STILL. New Sopranos episodes FTW World 3 Beth 2. The the shops shut. So I did no other shopping whatsoever. And got barely anything that I went in for. World 4 Beth 2. I got Subway on the way home. I am not counting this because I was planning to anyway.

I got back to Bingley for the evening service that I said I'd go to, still wearing my "Leeds Outfit", and planning to go back in tomorrow afer I got to a coffee morning thing at my boss' house in the morning. Except that everyone who will be there tomorrow was there tonight, so I therefore cannot wear the same thing tomorrow. To most people, this is not a problem. To someone who has no clothes, this is an issue. This is actually worrying me more than it should do. World 5 Beth 2.

UGH WHATEVS. So not entirely a bad day, just faily and ridiculous. I am now lying on my bed with a glass of rose wine watching the UK Office night on BBC2 with Pete and I am now far more chilled out. TOMORROW PLEASE BE LESS FAILY PLSKTHX.

What would Aretha Franklin do at this very moment?
Oh, this scene. I was genuinely planning on a "Favourite Emily and Lorelai scenes so far" spam and I had it all planned out, and then it took me most of last night to do this one so... I gave it up because what's that? Oh yeah, I have a 3800 word essay due in on Friday and exams coming up. Anyway, this scene, I love it, it breaks my heart. Especially when it comes after the scene in the bar and you get that although they'll never be "best friends" like Lorelai and Rory, Emily and Lorelai really do have the potential to be more than just mother and daughter. I'm so... intrigued as to how their relationship plays out over the next five seasons (not that I want to know, spoilers GTFO) because I just don't like the idea of there always being this friction between them. I don't know. To me, Emily and Lorelai are the real Gilmore Girls, Rory is just there to be smart and flirt with uninteresting guys. These two are kind of the reason that I'm loving this show. And on that note, uni, if you could maybe let me download some more, that would just be wicked great, you censoring assholes.

So, kudos to Alex who told me to be radical and not do The West Wing because HAI. This came out of it. And quelle surprise, there are two more in the pipeline that aren't West Wing related. Basically? Everyone should have a dance like this in their life. Maybe not with a male prostitute. But a dance like this all the same.

Call it gym, P.E., recess, or pure hell, most people have participated in a class at school that focused on games and athletics. What sport or game did you hate the most when you were a kid? What sport or game was your favorite?

View Answers

UGH UGH. I hated all forms of sport and PE at school. IT CAN GO DIE. Public humiliation for three hours a week? That's always fun. If we could have done dance or aerobics or shit like skiing like they get to do now I might have been all over it, but rounders, hockey and netball every week for a year? AND SWIMMING. SWIMMING WAS THE WORST. And Miss Partington was like a little nazi, forcing us to do it. I am not a good swimmer. I am, however, fully ok with that. I don't want to be a particularly amazing swimmer. I don't need to be. I can't catch or throw a ball... but why do I need to? I'm not going to be a professional rounders player, so I don't think it really matters whether I can hit a ball or not.

What I hate most about it was that it's supposed to be be amazing because too many kids are obese, and it's the only exercise they get. Fair enough, but I wasn't obese. I wasn't even overweight, so will someone please explain to me why I had to go through that shit? It's actually put me off sport and fitness for life. Every time I think I might do something sporty, the threat of public humiliation is still in my mind, and it stops me from going jogging or playing tennis with someone, or playing football with Sam.

At my school they encouraged everyone to be sporty. We had "House competitions" and they were based pretty much entirely on sport. What about drama, or music, or just plain ol' being smart and doing well at school? Why wasn't that encouaraged? Instead, we all had to do sports day. They only brought in House music and house drama the year before I left, so that was perfect timing. I was one of the smartest people in my year, and instead I just felt like a loser because I hated PE. UGH. I AM SO OVER SPORT IN SCHOOLS. FOR REAL. I have no idea what purpose it even really serves.

In short? I liked it when it rained and we got to sit in the gym and watch Chicken Run.

In other news: OMG SNOOWWW!!1! I have never gotten ready for a lecture as quickly as I did today, just so I get outside. It's practically all melted now :( Also, I saw Lucina before my french lesson, and she asked me how I did in my german essay, because I'd told her about my last minute nightmare. HOW AWESOME IS IT THAT SHE REMEMBERED AND THOUGHT TO ASK ME? I cannot get over that. This is exactly that the Italian department is the best. Because they actually care and give a damn, and they know who we are. I am so in love with my italian department. They are the saving grace in the fail bucket that is the MLAC department. I told her how badly I did in my italian as well though, and I said that I'm dedicating Christmas to going back to basics and re-learning all the grammar, so she said she'd put some worksheets together for me and look at them after Christmas. THIS IS WHY ITALIAN IS TOTES MY FAVE.

HUZZAH! With half an hour to go. Yes yes, I had every intention of doing either Posse Comitatus or Gaza et al, but hear me out. West Wing season finales get a lot of (very deserved) praise. But I think, as Twenty Hours also shows, that the season premieres deserve a lot more praise than they get, so in the end I went for the obvious way to spend my weekend: In The Shadow Of Two Gunmen. I only thought that maybe I should/could have done What Kind of Day Has It Been about two hours ago, at which point, it was too late. For those keeping track of essay watch, I managed to get 300 words out of 1200 done, and I made enough notes to allow me to write another 500 pretty easily. Score. Not a bad weekend, really. I don't have any songs to give you this time. Sorry :( Also, I make no apology for the amount of bias towards certain scenes. They were prettier and therefore deserved more caps. Ha.

This? Has taken me literally a month. I started it on the 2nd and it's now the 29th. I HAD PLANS. I was going to do so many for this challenge and then Real Life reared it's ugly head in the worst way possible, and although I'm going to try to kill myself to do Gaza/Memorial Day/NSF Thurmont by Monday... It's not looking likely. Posse Comitatus? NNGH INDECISION. Two essays due on the 17th December? No no, I'm sorry I failed my degree, dear parents, I was picspamming.

Aaaand, because I'm just lovely like that: Tori Amos - I Don't Like Mondays
